Taiwan celebrates their holidays with traditions and culture in mind, mostly Chinese heritage. Below you can find the holidays that are celebrated in Taiwan for the year 2011:

 

Saturday, 1 January 2011: New Year’s Day

Like most countries, this day is celebrated in Taiwan with fireworks and firecrackers. Public concerts and music are held to welcome the New Year.

Taiwan also celebrates the Chinese New Year according to the Chinese calendar with fireworks and traditional food. They show off their Chinese heritage, culture and traditions such as money in red envelopes to bring good wealth and fortune for the next year.

 

Monday, 28 February 2011: Peace Memorial Day

This holiday is in memory of the anti-government uprising in Taiwan in 1947.

 

Monday, 4 April 2011: Children’s Day

This holiday is celebrated to honor the children.

 

Tuesday, 5 April 2011: Tomb Sweeping Day

This day is to honor those who have departed. People go to the graves and clean the tombs of their departed ones.

 

Monday, 6 June 2011: Dragon Boat Festival

This day is a traditional holiday where people race with their boats.

 

Monday, 12 September 2011: Moon Festival

This is a traditional holiday where people eat traditional food such as moon cakes.

 

Monday, 10 October 2011: National Day

This national holiday is filled with fireworks and parades to celebrate the founding of Republic of China. This holiday is also known as “Double Ten Day”.
