Like every other country that celebrates New Year’s Day, Thailand is filled with fireworks and firecrackers to celebrate the New Year. People gather with their families and eat traditional foods and go to their friends for parties.
Friday, 18 February 2011: Makha Bucha Day
This holiday is also known as “Sangha Day” which is celebrated by the Buddhists. This day celebrates the day when a thousand monks from many places visited Buddha of their own will. On this day, Buddhists gather to local temples and attend the procession called Wian Tian.
Wednesday, 6 April 2011: King Rama I Memorial and Chakri day
This day celebrates the foundation of Chakri Dynasty back in 1782 which was founded by King Rama I. On this day, people participate in ceremonies and offers gifts, flowers to the House of Chakri.

This day is the traditional New Year celebrated in Thailand. On this day, people visit their relatives especially the elders and celebrate the New Year with them. This day is also celebrated by throwing or spraying water on people – which represents “cleansing” and “purifying” for the New Year.

This day celebrates the coronation of Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of the Chakri Dynasty back in 1950. On this day, a series of Buddhist ceremonies are held and rewards are given to people who have done good works and merits to the country.
Tuesday, 17 May 2011: Visakha Bucha Day (Buddha Day)
This religious Buddhist holiday celebrates the life of Buddha: the Birth, enlightenment and passing away. On this day, Buddhists gather to worship Buddha.
Friday, 15 July 2011: Asarnha Bucha Day
This day celebrates Buddha’s first sermon which is called “Dhammachakapavattana Sutta” to his first 5 disciples.
Friday, 12 August 2011: HM the Queen’s Birthday
This is a public holiday celebrated in Thailand, also celebrated as “Mother’s Day”. On this day, people raise flags of their nation and participate in celebrations around the Grand Palace.
Sunday, 23 October 2011: Chulalongkorn Day (Rama V Day)
Monday, 24 October 2011: Chulalongkorn Holiday
This celebration is also knowns as “Piyamaharaj Day” commemorating the death of King Chulalongkorn (King Rama V), who was known for abolishing slavery.
Monday, 5 December 2011: HM the King’s Birthday
This holiday is to celebrate the King’s Birthday, Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX). He is widely known for developing Thailand after the trials of World War II.
