Turkmenistan holidays are celebrated to honor major historical events and major religious celebrations. There are also other holidays that are honor and display the cultural traditions of the Turkmenistan people.

 

Saturday, 1 January 2011: New Year’s Day

Turkmenistan celebrates the New Year with colorful lights decorated on the buildings, streets and parks. Christmas trees can be seen on shopping malls and buildings.

 

Wednesday, 12 January 2011: Memorial Day

This day is to commemorate those who have died during the defense of the Geok Tepe fortress against Russian army in 1881.

This holiday celebrates the nation’s official National Flag of Turkmenistan.

 

Tuesday, 8 March 2011: International Women’s Day

This day celebrates the works and contributions of all women.

This is a traditional holiday that celebrates the “coming of spring” where concerts, shows that show Turkmenistan tradition and culture.

This day celebrates the end of World War II, commemorating those who fought against the Nazis during the war.

 

Wednesday, 18 May 2011: Revival and Unity Day

This day commemorates the Poetry of Magtymguly which inspired the Turkmenistan people to develop into a prosperous nation. On this day, the Constitution was adopted.

 

Wednesday, 31 August 2011: Oraza Baramy / Oraza Ait (End of Ramadan)

This religious holiday celebrates the End of the fasting month, Ramadan.

 

Thursday, 6 October 2011: Earthquake Remembrance Day

This day remembers those who have perished on the 1948 Earthquake.

This holiday celebrates the Turkmenistan’s declaration of Independence in 1991 from the Soviet Union.
