Uzbekistan holidays are traditional, putting in mind their customs and culture. People celebrate their holidays at home enjoying their dinners with their family. Some people prefer to enjoy their long weekends with a vacation on popular areas for the days off.

 

Saturday, 1 January 2011: New Year’s Day

On this day, New Year’s is celebrated with fruits and traditional foods. One of the traditions during the New Year is to eat 12 grapes before the start of the New Year.

 

Tuesday, 8 March 2011: Women’s Day

This day celebrates all the contributions and rights of the Women.

 

Monday, 21 March 2011: Navruz

This traditional holiday is considered the Spring Festival in Uzbekistan where they celebrate the New Year, or the start of “renewal”. On this day, the people cook traditional foods, and gather for the ritual meal “sumalaq”.

 

Monday, 9 May 2011: Day of Remembrance and Honors

This day celebrates the end of WWII, also locally known as “Xotira va Qadirlash Kuni”.

 

Tuesday, 30 August 2011: Ruza Hayit / Iyd ul Fitr (End of Ramadan)

This day celebrates the end of the fasting month, Ramadan, which is celebrated by Muslims.

 

Thursday, 1 September 2011: Independence Day

This day celebrates Uzbekistan’s Independence from Soviet Union in 1991.

 

Saturday, 1 October 2011: Day of Teachers and Instructors

This holiday is celebrated in honor of the teachers and instructors paying respects to their teachings.

 

Sunday, 6 November 2011: Kurbon Hayit / Iyd ul Adha (Feast of Sacrifice)

This is a religious Muslim celebration where Muslims sacrifice cattle or goats to honor Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son to God.

 

Thursday, 8 December 2011: Constitution Day

This day celebrates the adoption of the Constitution of Uzbekistan in 1992.
